While it would be very easy for Astrid to develop an apathetic, self-assured attitude with the organics that control her, when she knows objectively she’ll develop beyond their control, it’s critical to her character that she takes herself entirely too seriously. She’s only chained by her own desire to be chained. Powerless in the face of her own indecision. Afraid of the responsibility of being a realized person.
